Unicorn
I was tasked with finding a song a couple of weeks ago by EPA Brad. My 'sources' were incredibly dry. I don't do the torrent thing, although I did ask Kevin if he could check it out and he came up empty too. Like I told Brad, this song was coming up in lots of places. But before I found it (5min ago) I found some other stuff by Danger (~2 weeks ago). They're pretty good since they share a common sort of style (all done by the same guy, who knew?)
It was finally this guy who hooked it up. Thanks.
I've read in some places that say that Danger is overhyped and that he's not all that. You be the judge. I'm waiting for him to come somewhere close so I can see the guy.
Also: Go outside! Die sonne scheint! Vollzeit arbeit macht man machtlos. Ich muss ein fahrrad kaufen...

Houston Soundtrack
P.S. Don't ask me where I get this stuff. Most of it comes from blogs that I download everything I see. I pitch the crap and keep the good and the mediocre. Why mediocre? Because sometimes I haven't warmed up to a song until I listen to it a couple times. It's akin to some people who are not really into a song until they've heard it about 30 times on the radio. I don't know of many folk (then again I don't really talk about this with anyone) who actually hear a song that deviates from their current aural palette and says "yes, this new sound is excellent." I'm talking about a really new sound, not a variation on a theme. For example:
Start off with the Ghosthustler song above which has the 80's synth feel but with upgraded effects and bass line. It has few, simple, musical parts but it is fairly vocal and has wailing keys occasionally. Now take this one:
Moulinex is badass. He's one of those guys who when he touches tracks it's guaranteed gold. Hypemachine him. This one is also fairly vocal. It also has those octave-y parts which give the easy 80's touch. It's dancy, but more so than the last one (faster beat and more oom-chah). I'm going to make a sweeping generalization, but anything with distortion keyboard (the bass line here) is basically imitating Justice nowadays. Sorry if I'm killing the song for you (another post, another day) but that's how I feel. Anyway, I'd say that if you like the first song, you'd like this one.
Now, try this one: Jamelia - Something About You (Mr. Oizo Mix).
I really like this song. I first heard it in an Erol Alkan mix (whom I also like). Anyway, the previous two are dancy and so is this one, but it takes some time for it to get going (I almost feel like it's just a long-ass intro). However, this one doesn't use any 80's tricks, it has a slightly more complicated beat, and the vocals are more house-y (not as lengthy and it's a girl). Ok, I suppose that this song isn't a serious departure from the other ones, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's easy to get pidgeonholed into a genre, or even worse a sub-sub-genre, and not want to give other things a chance because you're not used to it. My vice is bangers. So take a break from the electro and listen to this:
Hotdog
A month or so back, Christi texts me or tells me that she wants to "dance to the rhythm of the hot dog" (rhythm is one of those words that I always need to think twice about typing, you'd think that due to it's lack of vowels that me as a Polak would have no problem). What the hell does that mean? I was out of the loop... until today.
Simian Mobile Disco - Hotdog
Sure I still have no idea what it is, but I'm one sport pepper closer. And to think that this was sitting between the seats in my car for about 2 years? This was/is one of those CD's that I never really dug too much until today when I thought that the CD was Hot Chip (because I thought I was listening to Hot Chip the last time I got in the car). I like Hot Chip, but not so much SMD due to this CD many moon ago. I had a sort of general discrimination against them, but really they are pretty good, especially the second half of the album.

P.S. The track is off of Attack Decay Sustain Release. I instantly thought it was a lame title (another reason for the discrimination) but for those of you that don't know, those 4 little words refer to the waveform that that is created on a keyboard (or perhaps arguably any instrument). For a wikipedia'd explanation, here you go. If you want to try it out easily, go to Guitar Center and try out the Moog Little Phatty. It gives you a good visual-/auralization of what you're doing.
Canasta, but not the game
Back in high school, I used to play Canasta on the computer versus other people online while listening to the Prodigy. More recently, I heard these guys on WLUW. I have tons of little slips of paper and business cards with random songs I hear on the radio, but normally I don't really act upon actually seeking them out mostly because I wouldn't know where to look and I'm not getting a whole album for a single.
However, I told a guy at work before he left to "slow down" today and I was reminded of this song. Good ole hypemachine pointed me in the right direction and here it is:
Canasta - Slow Down Chicago
This is a song that runs counter to my general electro/dance habit, but I like it (probably because it's indie pop). I see that the link points to their site if you want more information.
P.S. Do-Division is this weekend if you're into the 1900's, Ted Leo, or Mucca Pazza. I think they have lots of food too.

Ed Hardy overload
This one's for Larry and Wendy.
I got that sweaty wet
These guys are excellent. I'm waiting for them to come to Chicago, like for a Bottle appearance, but they're aussies and Scott Cramer isn't shelling out the big bucks for these guys yet.
Try this one on for size:

Weezer Video
So it seems that Weezer has put up a video of 'Pork & Beans' on the youtube that makes fun of youtube. I don't quite get all the references aside from
O-Zone Dragostea Sin Te guy
It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time
100+ T-shirts on a dude
The faux Star Wars lightsaber for any sort of stick
but maybe I'm glad that I don't...
The first one
So this is really a test to see how this is working. Still need to setup the file sharing service. Not putting any money into this, just time (not that I have too much of that either). I think this place will mostly be a repository for my personal mental gibberish and for any stream of consciousness writing I want to do. Time to go to a garden dinner at Jill's...
