I heard this song on WLUW today this morning. I didn't write the name of it down assuming that I'd find it on their twitter where they usually have the playlists show up. Not there, but I remembered the name of the band and after a good ol' hypemachining, I recognized the name. Summer jam candidate?

It's indie rock out of Cincinnati. It has some tint of Arcade Fire and is dancy in a Pitchforkmusicfest-not-darkwave-or-electronic sort of way. Yes, it is atypical to what I usually listen to but I recommend it.

24 25 hours a day

This song has been on my myspace profile for... oh I don't know... a year at least. Partially because I never log onto myspace anymore and also because it is such a chill groove that I have no reason to change it to anything else.

Charlotte Gainsburg - The Operation (25 Hours A Day Remix)

It's true, this guy is underhyped. You know what's genius on this track: around 1:25 the singular kick-snare. It's so simple, such common sounds, but it placed so well that you wonder why you're in the mood to jump. I haven't heard the original, but I'm rather enamored with this track right now. I really hate thinking about deconstructing music, especially on the first go of listening to it, but it's an automatic litmus test in that if I feel that I could come up with what I'm listening to, or that 'I could have thought of that' or 'I can play that' moment that the mystique is gone. I don't have that problem with this guy. By the way, he's an unsigned producer in Paris. Someone get this guy a plane ticket!

Hey look at that, another French group. Apparently Phoenix, Daft Punk, and Air are all cut from the same cloth in that at some point in their histories they were intertwined in bands. One of the members (Laurent Brancowitz) was in a band named Darlin' before he joined Phoenix. The other two members of Darlin' were Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. P.S. Don't watch Electroma.

Canasta, but not the game

Back in high school, I used to play Canasta on the computer versus other people online while listening to the Prodigy. More recently, I heard these guys on WLUW. I have tons of little slips of paper and business cards with random songs I hear on the radio, but normally I don't really act upon actually seeking them out mostly because I wouldn't know where to look and I'm not getting a whole album for a single.

However, I told a guy at work before he left to "slow down" today and I was reminded of this song. Good ole hypemachine pointed me in the right direction and here it is:

This is a song that runs counter to my general electro/dance habit, but I like it (probably because it's indie pop). I see that the link points to their site if you want more information.

P.S. Do-Division is this weekend if you're into the 1900's, Ted Leo, or Mucca Pazza. I think they have lots of food too.
