80's in Chicago

It's going to be 81 for a high for the first time in town this year. What does that mean?

Driving (more) quickly with the windows (more) open
Button down short-sleeve shirts
BBQ's
Beach blanket bingo

I heard this song on WLUW today this morning. I didn't write the name of it down assuming that I'd find it on their twitter where they usually have the playlists show up. Not there, but I remembered the name of the band and after a good ol' hypemachining, I recognized the name. Summer jam candidate?

Pomegranates - Everybody Go Outside! (Live on WOXY)
(For whatever reason I can't upload the track to my own mediafire so you'll have to get it where I got it from for now.)

It's indie rock out of Cincinnati. It has some tint of Arcade Fire and is dancy in a Pitchforkmusicfest-not-darkwave-or-electronic sort of way. Yes, it is atypical to what I usually listen to but I recommend it.

So it turns out I like Phoenix

I lied. I'm not doing a Nancy Whang post. And why the H in Whang? That's an english unnecessary artifact, not a la Chinese. Anyway, Phoenix is pretty good. I've already posted a track or two but they are worth writing a little about. I don't really care about the text here as much as I do about just posting up the mp3s. So....

Phoenix - 1901

By the way, sorry Phoenix about ignoring you since college. Maybe it's because I associated you with a certain make-out session way back then. Honestly, don't you have song associations with people in your life? It's not something that I consciously do until I realize that when the song comes on I think of the person girl. It's always a girl, who am I kidding.

Nadine: Human League - Don't You Want Me
Katelyn: Any Elliot Smith song
BK: La Roux - Tigerlily
Maria: Jimi Hendrix - Bold As Love

That's all I can think of right now. Wait, isn't this supposed to be a Phoenix post?

I've been looking in all the wrong places

As a treat for doing the dishes this morning, I was thanked by the computer. Let's back up.

A couple of months ago I saw Collette at Smartbar. She was on fire. And while I was dancing, she started to play this one song which I figured was 'As I Run' because that's the chorus. "This sounds different. Why does this sound so good?" I look over at the DJ table to give her a yeah! face and figured it out. It's because she was singing it live. She just threw gasoline on herself.

Seeing as I was never really into her, I aligned my internet abilities to the myspace/hypem/elbo/google/facebook search. Nothing. Trip to gramophone? Nothing. Nothing. Nothing could be found. Until....

Today. This song got queued on the computer.

The Juan Maclean - Happy House

Checking out the label text, it's Nancy Whang. Huh? Doppelganger? And who is Nancy Whang? Looking her up, wow I've been missing out. Everything she's been in on everything that I love. She has the quintessential vocal timbre for my feet. I can do a volume 1-2-3 post set just on her. Maybe I'll post it post this post.

Yeah!

P.S. Adrian doesn't work Chemical Overtime because they don't pay. Now there's a band name.
