My first

So once upon a time, I was on the internet between junior/senior years of college and I (somehow) found this magazine called Useless. It looked kind of interesting and so I made the impulse buy for their ~$10 premier issue. It was a bit on the weird side, but it was interesting nonetheless. However, it wasn't the magazine that changed my life, it was the CD inside: Larry Tee's Distortion Disko. I won't describe how it sounded only that it was the first time since blasting the last part of Hendrix's Bold as Love at DU in my headphones that my eyes rolled in the back of my head, I opened my mouth slightly and felt my legs start to go numb. I was hooked on electro. Using Useless #1 as my guide, my life began.

I have since lost the CD in the music purging cab ride, but here are the tracks. These are meant to be listened to gapless. Enjoy.

Larry Tee Distortion Disko - track 1
Larry Tee Distortion Disko - track 2
Larry Tee Distortion Disko - track 3

P.S. To Sam, Tim, & Christi - This is the CD we had playing while we did the auto dancing and the utterly gracious Sam drove to Smartbar.

Larry Tee used to be part of a group called the Now Explosion. I don't know what happened to them, but here's a track of theirs that hasn't fallen through my mp3 cracks of loss.

Now Explosion - Rhythm Within Em

I'm a moron

babycakes just informed me that the hotdog song in a prior post is actually a hand-slapping game that she learned on sesame street. I never payed attention to stuff like that. Oh well.

Black Girl

...title works with our format on racial understanding on Con Spicks.

Here's a new video by Black Ghosts, 'Repetition Kills You'. Man these guys are awesome.

And, if you haven't heard already, Girl Talk is/has releasing/ed his album on illegal-art.net and he's using the Radiohead pay whatever you want format. The experiment lives on, even after Thom said that he probably wouldn't release another album using that technique (story here, but that's just what I found on google, not who broke it).
Initially I didn't like the fellow, but I always liked mashup, but after having a dinner with Alanna (p.s. Happy Birthday), she said I should take another look at the girl in the red dress. So here it is. If I could give half-stars on iTunes, the bulk of this would get 3.5 . As I've heard elsewhere, this is the kind of album you'd listen to on the way to going out, not necessarily when you're there yet (which I agree with).
If you like this guy, you'd probably like Z-Trip, who was my first modern-day exposure to any sort of mashup, although his cuts are lengthier whereas Girl Talk's average sample from a track seems to be about 20-30sec.

Eddie

So after playing Apples to Apples last night, this only seems appropriate.

Harold Faltermeyer - Axel Foley
When I actually DJ'd more often than not, it worked really well with Billie Jean in a mix. By the way, I lost a lot of MP3's a while so I actually didn't have this song, however I found if off of this post which has a lot of old 80's soundtrack songs, which are super neat.

Jimmy

Similar to when Jay-Z jacked stole borrowed sampled Punjabi MC's song

Panjabi MC - Mundian to bach ke
"Does M.C. mean Madar chod or what?"

and turned it into his own:

Jay-Z - Beware of Boyz. Mr. Panjabi MC was unhappy about the arrangement, but it seems that the stories now are that everything is a-OK.

M.I.A. sampled (a lot) this Indian song

Jimmy aaja

in

M.I.A. - Jimmy.

This point is way late, but someone reminded me about it a few days ago (Sammy?) and I figured I'd tell some more people. You know, just because Bollywood imitates some western movies doesn't mean we should nick their songs. If everyone rips everyone off, we'll all be torn apart. (waa waa). Speaking of Bollywood, here's some silliness.

Maybe something a little more recent will percolate next post.

Travels.

Shit. So I'm in Seattle for my buddy's wedding (it seems that I'm going to a wedding more often than I should be... you know, for instance, once a year... maybe) and I failed to make it to the Saturday after-gathering primarily due to capitulation into laziness even though I know full well that I won't see this guy probably for the rest of my life. Mistake. But what I did do was spend a whole day doing consumerism right, all around the mean streets: some excellent 60's cuts similar to what you'd find in a Tarantino film, a shirt, some trinkets for my two significant others, and a book for another one of my dudes. But anyway, I find myself now sitting on a couch while the Fukno's nap independently in the same room and while I think about what there is to do tonight around town. Going.com has nothing for me.

I don't know of any local resources, so I ended up on myspace out of boredom. Clicking on one of the bulletins I find that Miami Horror is out and about... not anywhere near Mt. Rainer. I've come to the realization that I want to compile a list of interesting things to do around the country/world that I would be into. For example, touring schedules of sweet dj's and groups or club nights that would be tight (Lipgloss in Denver or Club Motherfucker in NYC). I think that would be a little tricky for one guy to do on a regular basis seeing as I don't regularly seek out shit to do in Dallas or Reims.

Although I did see that DJ Le Castlevania was playing in Barrio Antigua in Monterrey while I was there back in Feb, but I had to work the next day. Pinche.

Old Mix

I just heard an old mix CD of mine. It was pretty good. So good, that you should have this song in case you don't. And if you don't, get the album. It's good too, no matter what pitchfork says (about anything).

MGMT - Time to Pretend Video.

There was also this song which is a winner. I had to edit it a little because it was too damn long because it's so damn 80's Italo.

Fun Fun - Happy Station

Bamboozled

No, not the movie. Just speaking of Kitsune, I rifled through their latest music and heard this song to which I hypemachine'd it and voila. It's a remix of the Peter Gunn guitar riff twang and Prodigy's Breathe with an effect from Rick Dees' Disco Duck at 3:15. Still, it's worth a download, albeit maybe just a 3 out of 5. I guess you get what you pay for... this time.

Streetlife DJ's - Gunn

Eh, maybe I'll think twice when I post something.. or trying to deconstruct songs.

By the way, what do you get when you cross a

with

??

This guy.

RAC

How about that, more through thefastlife.org

Remix Artist Collective. It sounds like blah blah blah... click on the image and learn more. I think what I like most about it (so far) is the art. It reminds me of this stuff and when I bought my first Kitsune record (which was:

way back in 2005.

Benjamin Thieves - Texas (Original remix)
Benjamin Thieves - Texas (SebastiAn remix)

I didn't know at the time that all their stuff had the drawn faces as their background. After I saw the cover art, I wanted all my arty buddies to make some faces like that for me and I would xerox them different ways and plaster them all around my room as wallpaper. Yeah, that never happened.

I haven't picked up any Kitsune lately, which makes me think that I should. I always get the compilations which usually has some (never all) decent stuff on it and above all point me in the right direction. The last thing that I got that stuck (which is off the compilation, but you should get the single too with B-side Italian Blonde) was

Rex The Dog - Circulate

Side note: I hate describing music. I especially am not a fan of when others do it. I guess it's necessary for magazines to stay afloat. Websites can at least have the links of songs for you to have your own opinions. I figure if you're going to dnload off of me, then you should listen and then keep or delete. If you delete more than you keep, find another blargh.

2manydj's Video

Every time I go to LA, I give Amoeba a stop and search for some 2manydj's mix cd's (slightly legitimate bootlegs, but $25 a pop). I probably should just do the forum thing and get it from random internet folk for zero, but I guess I'm lazy. Anyway, seeing Soulwax perform at Coachella and 2manydj's in Chicago (same people by the way) for the first time(s) was a life changing experience (more on that later). Now they are making a video of their experiences of traveling, partying, and dj'ing. Link plus teaser:

footnote - TheFastLife

Another aside, Partizan (the folks putting the movie out) makes me think of Pias and Citizen, which are who put Vitalic out. Why the guy hasn't had another album in out in a long time is beyond me. Here is the track that got me hooked on him +1, both off of OK Cowboy

Vitalic - My Friend Dario
Vitalic - Repair Machine DiscoMix

And now since it's halb zwolf on a school night, here's a chill track that I found through Erol Alkan's Bugged In Mix. Good night.

The Concretes - Miss You

Nice Hat

Really, this was just an excuse to put up the girl's hat. She's got it going on.

Saturday

So after a morning of air conditioning installing and mario kart playing and roommate's girl upsetting resulting in High Fidelity watching, it's 4pm. I've been trying to wrestle with the concept of changing attitude. It is probably common knowledge that your given attitude and general feeling results in what you say and what you do since we're more emotional than rational whatever we may think (or feel, ha). One of my new goals in life is to figure out how to control emotion. When people say that, in general they are meaning to suppress it and think in a logical manner. The way I want to control it is that at any given moment, I want to be able to propel myself into the mood I desire. I guess first off you need to figure out what causes your mind to be put in the emotional state that it's in at any given time. For example, this morning the sun was shining and as I got out of bed I saw all this shit all around my apartment and it was hot. I drove my madame to work and listened to Click and Clack on NPR and then (again) dancy music.

Black Ghosts - Let's Get Physical to be specific (again).

All of a sudden, I didn't want to clean anymore but rather I just wanted to look for new music since, shit, I've been listening to that song for at least 6 months. Well, I downloaded a couple of songs through trashmenagerie.com and after trotting through myspace. Nothing worth re-posting here though. Then I came upon the fact that Acid Girls is coming into town (according to their myspace) a la Trash Menagerie and I couldn't find anything regarding that on the blog. Well, I started to wonder why not? Why can't I know? Why don't I know anyone that, at minimum, would be decently qualified that I can ask? Looking back on that, that was rather silly, but that's not the point I'm trying to make. I don't know yet what the solution is, seeing as I have been just thinking about this for a week and other people probably do psychiatric dissertations on the subject, but I do know that on mushrooms that I could control my feelings very well; running around with your arms outstretched pretending to be an airplane, then with news of the cops, instantly becoming sober for the time being, but out of breath. Just think what you could achieve if you actually could control it!

Time for ribs.

P.S. I just got the invite (5sec ago) for the Trash party. Life is funny. Let's Dance!

Utah Saints - Something Good (Van She Mix)

I'm feeling... disappointed

Have you ever watched one of your favorite 80's cartoons or movies only to realize that it's not the way you remembered it; perhaps you finally realize that the show that you thought was so cool is actually really lame? I can't think of an example right now other than Tail Spin or Rescue Rangers, however musically I just discovered one this morning.

My guy Alexander Robotnik has an awesome album called "Oh No... Robotnik" which is how I came to discover him. He's had a big influence on the electro-Italo music scene and is a really good DJ if you ever get a chance to see him; Israeli Dan (and Adrian?) and I saw him at Rednofive a couple of years back and I even saw him at a warehouse party near my house where my pal Adam ended up talking the good talk with the cops while I slithered past unscathed. Massive speakers, his head bobbing up and down furiously while people where getting sweaty (you didn't really have to dance to get wet, it was hot enough if you weren't by a fan). That was an interesting time. His top song back in the 80's was

Alexander Robotnik - Problemes D'Amour

It is in French, but the guy is Italian. He also put out a year or so ago what he calls History which is basically a chronological mix of a lot of good house hits over the years. I played it at my old occupation once when I was working late and this supervisor guy (not mine) who used to be in the scene walked in on me playing this music and started dancing in the office at 7pm. "Oh man... THIS song!" I hardly know any of the tracks, but it's pretty good:

Alexander Robotnik - History

Which brings us to the present. I'm Maurizio Dami's friend on myspace (his real name) and he put out a new video doing some old-style electro stuff. I was fairly excited to see it... until I actually saw it. Just watching the guy do the vocals and the dancing, one can't help but laugh and dismiss his efforts. It just makes me want to hang my head. Watch it if you dare.

Moulinex (Moo luh nay) c'est Francais (Say Fruhn, say!)

Once again, Moulinex is a winner. This mix is pretty good.

Libere La Femme vol. II Mix

01. miami horror - don't be on with her
02. egyptian lover - my beat goes boom
03. russ chimes - push the feeling on (russ chimes remix)
04. bumblebeez - dr love (a-trak remix)
05. ben mono - hit the bit (rhode remix)
06. afrika bambaata - funky heroes
07. xinobi - bmx
08. yo majesty - club action
09. moulinex - breakchops
10. daft punk - high life (moulinex edit)
11. cryptonites - hands of god (fingers of moulinex remix)
12. tepr - minuit jacuzzi (data remix)
13. justice - phantom pt. ii (boys noize remix)
14. moulinex - leisure suit
15. gingy - rios for mvp
16. timbaland - miscommunication (the bloody beetroots remix)
17. le knight club - soul bells (edit)
18. lifelike - so electric
19. michael cassette - zeppelin
20. the outrunners - blazing speed and neon lights with you
21. college - teenage color (anoraak remix)
22. maetheelvin - lost in big city
23. sebastian tellier - la ritournelle

There are some particular guys here that are pretty good that you should know about:

-> Tepr <- I found out this guy almost a year ago through myspace somehow and the video was just so awesome. I discovered Yelle that way and she reminded me of a French, up-to-date, and more dancy Annie. I recommend Chewing Gum for the babes to listen to. Don't get too cocky, though. (link later...)

-> Bloody Beetroots <- Honestly I don't know too much about these guys other than they do the whole mask thing that Daft Punk, Mstrkrft, The Knife (live), etc. do. I don't know how I feel about that. However, they are pretty good in the remix business. Listen to the audioporno mix on their myspace and then elbow the crap out of them.

-> Miami Horror <- I'm pretty sure he is the big dude from Gameboy/Gamegirl I talked about a couple of posts ago (man I am soooo established on the SCENE. I am so scene. I heard people that say that they are so scene are not scene. I am so not scene. There, that's better.)

-> Egyptian Lover <- I really wanted to just post his picture up. He's good to listen to too.

There's not that much to write here seeing as I can't really give the backgrounds on most these people other than the fact that you should check them. In the meantime, wait for this to come out:

My approach to writing the stuff that I do here is that I am communicating mostly to my pals who don't know much about this stuff. If you're a Mr. Fancy Pants constantly looking at the ceiling and think that Daft Punk Technologic should never be played in a mix ever again (which is kind of true), then you can do the just visiting on this blogopoly board.
